Correction: Deborah’s Radio Interview on OCTOBER 30; and Men’s League Visit
CORRECTION: Deborah’s radio interview is on OCTOBER 30; AM850 KFUO out of St. Louis at 8:30 am Central Time.
Carl and Deborah had a wonderful time at a conference with pastors and members of the Northwest Diocese of the Lutheran Church in Southern Africa this past weekend, Nov. 27-28. Sixty-five men from congregations of the diocese gathered together for a commissioning service on Sunday; many of them attended lectures on Saturday. Rev. David Tswaedi, DD was the guest preacher for Sunday and preached on the importance of the Reformation to us today. The church service was 4 1/2 hours long.
Both Carl and Deborah were invited to give presentations at the Saturday conference. Carl presented on the Bible’s teachings on the establishment and guidance for the Office of the Ministry as well as presented about the training of pastors at Lutheran Theological Seminary. Deborah presented on the work of deaconesses in the Bible, in history and today as well as the Deaconess Training Programme at LTS.
Thank you to Dean Mafereka and the Diosesian leadership for the invitation and warm welcome. The audience presented many interesting questions and responses to the presentations.

Prayer Request for Deborah’s Health
Dear Friends,
Deborah was diagnosed this morning (Oct 11) with measles. She had a bad night sleeping and when daylight came she had spots on most of her body. We were able to see a good doctor right away this morning and he diagnosed her with measles. He quarantined her to our house until Monday when he wants to see her again. The doctor believes the bouts of infection since her surgery have weakened her immune system, so she picked up measles even though she has been immunized, etc. The measles spots cover most of her body now, but Calamine lotion is giving her noticeable relief.
Please pray:
1. Healing for Deborah from the measles and for her whole immune system.
2. Strength for Carl to take care of her. Good health for Carl and Ted so we don’t get sick.
3. Thanksgiving for good doctors and pharmacists (who helped find good over the counter treatment!) who are really helping us a lot.
4. Blessings on our LTS students who often face many difficulties.
I am preaching on 2 Corinthians 8:1-9 tomorrow in LTS Friday chapel. It is a good passage to mediate upon in the midst of trials; God’s grace enables us to help others even in the midst of our own trials, how can this be possible? Verse nine: “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.” Here is a link to the entire reading.
Thanks for your care and support, Carl
